The global electricity system is at a tipping point. A new analysis by RMI, in partnership with the Bezos Earth Fund, shows renewable energy sources are on track to meet ambitious net-zero scenarios, with more than one third of all power coming from solar and wind by 2030. The research suggests that fossil fuel demand has peaked in the electricity sector and will be in freefall by the end of the decade, giving renewed hope for achieving global climate goals. RMI’s Kingsmill Bond, a lead author on the report, joined us to discuss the findings and where the sector goes from here.
