Internet companies are now central to the growing geopolitical battle for influence between the U.S. and China. TikTok, WeChat, Huawei, and likely soon gaming companies with Chinese ownership are all targeted by Trump, and Facebook and many others are banned in China. And even as China supports and promotes its own companies around the world, the U.S. is in effect beginning to suppress ours, with antitrust enforcement looming for both Google and Facebook. Meanwhile, both countries are destined to remain major global tech powers. How will this battle play out and what does it mean for U.S. soft power and global influence?
