Ty Young is a career journalist and editor of StartUp Tucson News. He has worked for four newspapers and now freelances for magazines, websites, and other publications. While earning his English literature and journalism degree at the University of Arizona, Ty began writing for the Arizona Daily Wildcat and eventually the Tucson Citizen. After graduating in 2004, he reported for The Arizona Republic, covering topics such as public safety, sports business, and public space funding issues. After three years, Ty left for the Phoenix Business Journal, where he became one of the Southwest United States’ most prominent science and technology reporters. Since leaving the newsroom, he still focuses coverage on biotechnology, nanotechnology, plastic and cosmetic surgery issues, and environmental science and technology advancement news.

In his free time, Ty is community-minded and is in the process of launching two non-profit organizations designed to increase awareness of clinical depression and suicide prevention amongst adolescents. He also serves as a mentor to a number of college and high-school level writers and journalists, while helping formerly incarcerated individuals build and fine-tune their resumes to find employment.
