Krystal Vasquez is a Los Angeles-based journalist, as well as an editorial fellow at Sierra Magazine. With a background in Earth science, she mainly writes about scientific research that relates back to the natural world. She also reports on environmental health and policy, and loudly advocates for increased diversity in STEM. Her work has appeared in places such as Scientific AmericanEnvironmental Health NewsEosChemistry WorldTemblor Earthquake News, and Inside Science.

She also holds a Ph.D. in atmopsheric chemistry from the California Institute of Technology, where her dissertation explored how air quality might be impacted when urban pollution mingles with gases that are naturally emitted from trees. (She promises it’s not actually as boring as it sounds). Prior to this, Krystal attended the University of California, Riverside, where she majored in environmental chemistry.

Krystal is currently open for freelance work as an science or environmental journalist, technical writer, fact-checker and copyeditor. She also available for remote speaking engagements. Topics could span: science communication for scientists, diversity in STEM, and disability inclusion in environmental justice, among others.
