Gregory Feifer is editor for Europe at GlobalPost. Before joining GlobalPost, he was senior correspondent at Radio Free Europe in Prague and NPR bureau chief in Moscow, where he covered Russia’s resurgence under Vladimir Putin. He reported from across the country and other former Soviet republics, and observed the effects of Russia’s vast new oil wealth on an increasingly nationalistic society as well as Moscow’s rekindling of a new Cold War-style opposition to the West. Feifer is the author of “Russians,” a book about Russian behavior and society to be published by the Hachette imprint Twelve in April 2012. His book “The Great Gamble,” a history of the Soviet war in Afghanistan, was published by HarperCollins in January 2009. He also co-wrote “Spy Handler,” published by Basic Books in 2005, with former KGB colonel Victor Cherkashin. His work has appeared in numerous outlets, including The New Republic, The Washington Post and World Policy Journal. He earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees at Harvard University and lives in Boston with his wife Elizabeth, son Sebastian, and daughter Vanessa.
