David Evans is Cisco’s chief futurist; an evangelist who shares his vision of technology’s evolution in anticipation of the coming decades.  In his role, Evans assesses technology’s future impact on Cisco customers, businesses, and industries – with the goal of evoking inspiration when it comes to the practical application of technological advances.

An expert on emerging technologies, Evans holds a number of patents for RFID, connected car, virtual people, and mobile phone technology. His visionary acumen has garnered global attention on topics such as the “Internet of Everything” (IoE) and “The Net Effect,” where he outlines IoE’s transformational impact and the role of the network. Currently designated by Linkedin as one of the 150 Most Influential Thought Leaders in the world, Evans’ views have been shared in Forbes, CNN, San Jose Mercury News, New York Times, Nikkei, MSNBC and others as well as through a very active social media presence.

A Cisco veteran of 23 years, Evans is also chief technologist of the Cisco Internet Business Solutions Group (IBSG), the company’s global executive consulting organization. He leads a team chartered with addressing customers’ business challenges, articulating a strategic vision to deliver value through the innovative use of technology. Evans joined IBSG from Cisco’s IT organization, where he managed the global architecture team, focusing on IP telephony, unified messaging, wireless, networked home, and Internet-related technologies.

Prior to Cisco, Evans held various IT positions at both AMD and MMI. He pursued computer science and computer engineering at San Jose State University in San Jose, California.
