Dan Gilbert is founder and chairman of Detroit-based Rock Ventures and Quicken Loans. He is committed to transforming downtown Detroit into a dynamic, high-tech, entrepreneurial urban core where people want to live, work, and play. Since 2010, Dan has moved a majority of his family of companies, along with their 6,500 team members, to downtown Detroit, while acquiring more than three million square feet of commercial real estate in the city’s central business district. He is a principal of Detroit Venture Partners, a venture capital firm that backs seed and early-stage tech companies, and is a founding partner of Detroit-based private equity group Rockbridge Growth Equity, which invests in growing businesses in the financial services, Internet technology, and consumer-direct marketing space. Dan is also heavily invested in the sports and entertainment industries. He is majority owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, and his Rock Gaming partnership with Caesars Entertainment owns and operates Horseshoe Casino in downtown Cleveland and, in 2013, opened a second Horseshoe Casino in downtown Cincinnati. Dan founded Bizdom, a business accelerator that helps entrepreneurs launch, fund, and grow innovative, tech-based startups in Detroit and Cleveland. He is also vice chair of Detroit’s M1 initiative, focused on bringing light rail to downtown Detroit.
