With over 20 years of experience at the intersection of technology, law, business, and public policy, Andrew Byrnes has a proven track record of driving growth in industries facing regulatory pressure and turning around businesses and teams in crisis. Most recently, he has been the principal general counsel for Uber’s $10 billion global rideshare business as well as the recently launched Uber Works staffing platform. Immediately before joining Uber, he served as General Counsel and cross-functional senior executive of two venture-backed companies, first at Shuddle, a pioneering rideshare service for busy families, and then at PresenceLearning, a telehealth marketplace and SaaS company. From 2013 to 2015, he served as the presidentially appointed Chief of Staff at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, America’s innovation agency, overseeing agency operations, public policy efforts, and engagement with the global innovation community. Prior to his government service, he represented technology companies as a Silicon Valley-based attorney at several major law firms, including as a partner in Covington and Burling, LLP. Andrew is a graduate of Stanford University and Harvard Law School.
