Mohit Bhende

Founder, Karat

Mo co-founded Karat with the goal of making interviewing an important, data-informed profession.

Karat conducts highly predictive first-round technical interviews on behalf of clients including Pinterest, Intuit, Citrix and Indeed. The company’s solution leverages a network of software engineers whom Karat recruits and equips to be Professional Interview Engineers. Karat’s unique business model reclaims significant engineering time in the hiring process and provides candidates with a flexible and responsive experience. The company is now conducting 30,000 technical interviews per year and is leveraging the data to drive continous improvements in how companies hire engineers. Karat is based in Seattle and backed by Norwest Venture Partners, 8VC and the Founders of Glassdoor, MuleSoft, OPOWER and Creative Artists Agency.

Prior to Karat, Mo cultivated his passion for hiring and talent development as an executive at Microsoft. At Microsoft, Mo closed $700M+ in business development and M&A deals for XBOX. Earlier in his career at Microsoft, Mo managed the company’s $200M Corporate China Fund and was based in Beijing. Previously, Mo founded and led Topic Magazine, a lifestyle publication that was reviewed by the FT, New York Times and WSJ. Mo holds an MBA from Wharton, an MPhil from Cambridge – where he studied as a Gates Scholar – and a BS with Honors from Penn State. He has served on Penn State’s Alumni Board and loves to ski, travel and spend quality time with his wife, children and family.
