Securing Data in an Age of Hacktivists and Cyber-terrorism

Techonomy Media convenes a select group of business leaders and technology experts for an intimate, in-depth conversation about the current state and future of data security led by Chief Techonomist David Kirkpatrick with Art Coviello, Executive Chairman of RSA, and former National Intelligence Director Adm. Mike McConnell (USN, Ret.), now Vice Chairman of Booz Allen Hamilton.

Security concerns now underlie just about every conversation about the future of tech and of business. If we can’t secure the Internet and our private digital interactions, the glorious productive future so many of us believe in for our country and planet becomes impossible. Security and privacy came up when David Kirkpatrick spoke onstage both with Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and IBM’s Ginni Rometty as part of their keynotes at the recent Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Now the conversation continues. There is seldom an opportunity to hear the issue tackled head-on by two such eminent experts and practitioners, with the battle scars to prove it.

Some of the themes of the discussion: What do the governments of the world and the private sector need to do now to build (or rebuild) trust in the digital world? What is the current state of cyber espionage? What information should be shared between industry and government? And as cyberthreats mutate and the digital arms race escalates, how can organizations implement and maintain a strategy to effectively thwart the bad guys? How can companies better protect themselves? How much should they disclose about attacks and defenses? How do stakeholders weigh trade-offs between privacy and security? Are both possible? Or can we have only privacy or security, but not both?
