This New Year, Achieve Your Goals With “Lift”

Every January, people make New Year’s Resolutions to exercise more, eat better, or try something different. Although resolutions often start off strong, even those with the best intentions eventually lose motivation.

But this year there is a new iPhone app to help convert these temporary goals into permanent ways of life. Lift, created by Tony Stubblebine and Jon Crosby, enables users to create personalized goal lists by choosing from a standard list of popular resolutions (Drink More Water, Sleep By Midnight, Exercise, etc.) and adding their own. Users can track each of their specific set goals by “checking in” each time they complete them, similar to how users check in to a location on Foursquare. The app tracks progress in a calendar that maps out weekly and monthly check-ins and allows users to write customized notes to help them stay on track.

Because competition can boost motivation, Lift users can see friends’ check-ins and “prop” (equivalent to a Facebook “Like”) or comment on them. This incentivizes users to surpass friends’ records, channeling a competitive spirit into accomplishing personal, life-changing goals. Not only does Lift foster self-improvement, but it also creates stronger friendship bonds as people struggle and encourage each other to reach goals together.
