THE EDUCATORS

Inspiring the Next Generation in a Global Classroom

To broaden the reach of Techonomy 2010, we have partnered with the 100 People Foundation to tap into some of the brightest minds from across the U.S. – high school students that represent the next generation of technology gurus and innovators. Our student Techonomists will offer their singular perspective as participants at the conference, and will serve as journalists in a series of videos we’re creating for broadcast and classroom use. A major goal of the series is to inspire the next generation of young American scientists and engineers. We will get to see the world as only a thoughtful young student can, and follow them on a global journey.

With 6.7 billion people in the world, we face certain global challenges, and we believe that technology holds the key to the solutions. Below are some of the questions that we will address:

  • Is there enough clean water on the planet for all of us and are there better ways to make it available?
  • How can we improve agricultural technologies to make sure everyone has enough to eat?
  • Can we really eradicate infectious diseases?
  • Is it possible to manage global financial markets in a way that ensures they remain healthy?
  • How can more people gain access to a better education?
  • How can we better utilize our renewable energy sources to power our planet indefinitely?
  • With so many people on the planet, aren’t there better ways to recycle or dispose of our waste?

100 People Foundation, founded in 2005 by Techonomy co-producers Carolyn Jones and Michael Christman, creates media and educational tools that simplify and humanize complex global statistics by looking at the world as a community of 100 people. The videos on this website were created by Carolyn Jones in collaboration with the 100 People Foundation. www.100people.org/lens/.
