Mark Patel

Principal, McKinsey & Company

Mark is a partner in the San Francisco Office of McKinsey & Company, with over 12 years’ experience serving semiconductor, high tech and industrial clients on strategy and operations topics.

Mark co-leads McKinsey’s Internet of Things service line globally. He works with clients across sectors to accelerate the connection between the physical and digital world. He is a passionate believer in the impact that the IoT will have in improving our lives, work, society and our health.

Mark is also responsible for leading McKinsey’s advanced analytics and digital efforts in advanced industries and manufacturing. He is also one of the lead partners in McKinsey’s Semiconductor and Biosystems practice groups. He has been leading the development of advanced analytics including advanced predictive models applied to his clients’ operations.

Beyond McKinsey, Mark has had two experiences in building and leading early stage high tech companies.

From 2010 – 2012, Mark was a member of the executive team of Amyris (Nasdaq: AMRS), a leading company in synthetic biology. At Amyris, Mark was SVP of Commercial Operations and Strategy and led the team that created an in house platform for advanced analytics.

In 2000, Mark was part of the early team in DigitalRum, a venture funded developer of application software for mobile operators.

Mark holds an MBA from Stanford University and both Masters and Bachelors degrees in Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Cambridge, UK.
