James Powell

Chief Technology Officer, Thomson Reuters

As Chief Technology Officer at Thomson Reuters, James is responsible for overseeing the company’s technology initiatives and strategy, including the development of strategic technologies, to advance the development and delivery of intelligent information. In this role, James has two primary areas of focus: Strategic Technologies, including big data, mobile technology, and key shared capabilities such as identity and collaboration; Strategy and Governance, including enterprise architecture, information security, and technology strategy. James has been with Thomson Reuters for over 20 years, serving in a variety of leadership roles, including CTO for the former Markets division, CTO for Reuters Financial division, and global head of product development. He has also held senior leadership positions at Solace Systems, Citadel Investment Group, and TIBCO Finance Technology. He earned a BSc in Mathematics and an MSc in Industrial Robotics from Imperial College London.
