Most of our knowledge about innovation is drawn from the study of enterprises, but there is another level of looking at innovation – in terms of societies. We can’t leave it to neo-classical economists and a few political scientists to determine how we should think about large-scale innovation. Innovation prowess is no longer proportionate to landmass, GDP, and population. Singapore, a country the size of greater Chicago with no natural resources to speak of, is now vying to be a powerhouse of innovation. Thinking about agendas for innovation at a societal level is critical because global challenges require a global response. Let’s say you’re the new Chief Innovation Officer of the World.
