THE FOUR DIMENSIONS OF THE TECHONOMY

The core philosophy of TECHONOMY 2010 is that it is human nature – not just necessity – that drives us to invent. The most successful innovations have a profound “multiplier effect” on mankind’s ability to meet material needs. This applies in all aspects of human endeavor.

That’s a pretty broad spectrum of activity. To methodically explore the full ramifications and potential of these multipliers, the editors are organizing the TECHONOMY 2010 program into four dimensions: ELEMENTS, STRUCTURES, NETWORKS and SYSTEMS. Each category addresses different ways in which the collective human ability to innovate has evolved and yielded distinctive kinds of catalytic technologies that drive our civilizations forward and make it possible for our planet to support more people with greater comfort and security. Modern techonomic innovations draw from existing technologies and processes in many, if not all, of these dimensions, often combining them in new ways to solve problems or exploit opportunities.
